Mark 9:33-35 NLT and Mark 10:43-45 NLT

Mark9:33  After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, “What were you discussing out on the road?” 34 But they didn’t answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest. 35 He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”

Mark 10:43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Why did Jesus kept telling us to be servants? Come to think of it, Jesus kept serving everyone and never “lorded it over” to claim his kingdom on earth. All the miracles that Jesus did in the Bible was always to serve others, and not himself. Never did He do a miracle for himself. Jesus said, “even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others.”

So God surely desires that all the good things that we do, even doing miracles through the Holy Spirit’s power, has the ultimate reason and motivation of serving others. We just know that God loves us so much that we want everyone else to know He loves them too.

Make a 2 to 4 hour appointment with yourself. Sit down with the Holy Spirit and check your weekly or annual schedule of activities. Erase anything written that is not motivated by serving others. Make serving God back, and serving people the only reason for all the activities left in your schedule. Do not forget to put in rest time with God (i.e. Sabbath rest). This is the most important activity we always need to have. It energizes us. It strengthens us. It makes us dependent on God and not on our own abilities and resources. It makes miracles happen, instead of human solutions.

Another wise idea is to tell yourself every morning to serve every person that you meet or talk to during the day. Before meeting someone, always think, “Am I serving him by doing this, or am I taking advantage of him? Am I helping him get closer to God, or am I causing him to go farther away from God?”

Believe God will bless each and every activity you do everyday and those planned in your schedule such that it will produce 20, 60 or even a 100 times harvest! God is able. Nothing is impossible with God. The blood of Jesus has made this promise possible for us to claim. Let it happen in your life. Amen.
