7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
Somehow this scripture does not seem to be true anymore to long time Christians. The most common reason is that we have tried to pray and pray in the past and God did not answer our prayer. We asked, seeked and knocked for several days, several months, even several years and just got tired of it because God is not giving what we’re asking for. We got wounded faith on this part of the Bible.
But it is obvious from these verses that God surely wants to give His children GOOD GIFTS. I believe Jesus said these verses to reiterate and to increase our faith, to believe again that God surely wants to give His children good gifts.
Whatever happened to us in the past, whether we kept on asking God for several days, months or years, Jesus the SON OF GOD wants you to know that God wants to give you good gifts. Jesus would not say this if this were not true. Jesus would not say this if this was not God’s true character. God’s character is surely that He wants to give you good gifts. That is the truth. That is who God is. God wants to give you good gifts! God wants to give you good gifts! God wants to give you good gifts!
Let us stop our self-pity party and go on with our life. Let us keep believing God for good gifts. If it does not come, then believe Him for better gifts. Just keep believing that He is a God that wants to give you good gifts! Amen. 🙂
