Matthew 15:15-20 NLT – 15 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Explain to us the parable that says people aren’t defiled by what they eat.”
16 “Don’t you understand yet?” Jesus asked.17 “Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.18 But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you.19 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.20 These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.”
Jesus says that the words you speak is an indicator if your heart is defiled or not. What do you speak when things go wrong? What words do you speak when your children are not obeying? What words do you speak when your spouse is “rubbing your wounds?” What words do you speak when see your boss or leader or co-worker or classmate doing something bad (like cheating, or stealing, etc.)? What words do you speak when a car suddenly cuts you off the road? What words do you speak when your relative asks you for help on your busy day?
Our heart is more important to our life than what we eat. What is in our heart directs the course of our future. Let us check our heart every time things go wrong, or things go right. Let us make sure to guard our heart and if defiled, clean it immediately with the blood of Jesus. Just ask Jesus for forgiveness, accept His forgiveness, and then repent! Repent is to decide to never do it again, and claim power from God to change your body and soul so you will not do it again.
Jesus has already paid a HIGH price to free you from heart defilement. Do not let His payment go to waste. Always claim it! God wants you to be free from defilement!
