Matthew 26:27-28, 66-68 NLT – 27 And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it,28 for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.
66 What is your verdict?” “Guilty!” they shouted. “He deserves to die!”67 Then they began to spit in Jesus’ face and beat him with their fists. And some slapped him,68 jeering, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who hit you that time?”
Before I got “turned on” to God, I just did what I wanted to do (even after being part of a Christian church). I got angry and shouted at anyone who does not do what I wanted them to do. I ate what I wanted to eat. I love to read so I bought novels, comic books, and magazines that I wanted to read. I listen to any type of music I liked. I lusted after girls that I like. I watched any movie that I wanted to watch. I never wanted to know God, even if people would invite me. I never wanted to go to church. I just did what I wanted to do. It was all about me and my wants. All of it was a waste of time, money and energy. I was getting old and going nowhere.
I never realized that Jesus already saved me from all of these selfishness. In the verses above during the last supper, Jesus already established and confirmed the new covenant (or the new testament) between God and me. That means, whatever God gave me according to the new testament, it is already mine. And he paid the greatest price for this new testament. He had to become a man like us, and shield us from all the blame, jeers, beatings, pain, suffering, humiliation, and slow death on the cross, that is coming at us. He shielded us from being touched by all these things. And He was successful. And He did it 2000+ year ago. Even though he knew I would reject Him, not obey Him, and not even think about Him, He still did it for me.
Ever tried to confirm an agreement that would greatly benefit and change the life of a person that you know would lie to you, cheat you, steal from you, bad mouth you, and run away hiding from you? And then you had to die for the agreement to be sealed? But that’s what God did for us. And it is not only one person who is rejecting Him, multiply that hurt and rejection by 6 billion people! But He still did it for all of us. He still suffered and died for the covenant to be sealed forever. God just wanted us to have a changed life. An abundant life. That is how great God’s love is for me and you.
Let us stop putting ourselves in trouble and start thanking Jesus for shielding us from troubles and confirming the new covenant with us. Let us stop living and focusing on our own desires, and start focusing and claiming all the great things God has given us in the New Testament! God says in the New Testament that we are given a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. It is already mine, thus I can receive it and use it, by choosing to enjoy self-discipline and hate living for my selfish desires. And it all happens because God says so, so it is so.
God has already given you great power to live a victorious life, a life to the full. He even took the time to write all of it in the New Testament so that no one would miss it. And it is now a testament that cannot be broken because of what Jesus did on the cross. All you need to do is receive it and use it. How? Find in the New Testament all the powers God gave you, and just do it! Just live it out! You will find out that He gave you much much more than you will ever need to live a great and abundant life! Because that is who God is. He loves you abundantly exceedingly more than your wildest dreams. He provides for you abundantly exceedingly more than your wildest dreams.
I’m telling you, do not to let this great provision pass you by. The greatest gift is already given to you. The New Testament is already there. God loves you so much that He has bought it with His own sufferings and blood just for you to have it. Claim it and use it!
Prayer Starter: Dear Jesus, I now realize what great price you had to give, so that I would live a victorious abundant life. And I have just been rejecting it as if it was never there. I have even been claiming that my sufferings was because of You! When all the while it was because of my wrong decisions. Please forgive me Lord for rejecting your gift and blaming you for my mistakes. I now claim all your gifts for me written in the New Testament. I will use them, I will do what the gifts are for, I will live them out, starting today. I love you Jesus for loving me first and for all these gifts! Amen.
