Romans 6:14 NLT – Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
John 1:17 NIV – For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:8 NLT – God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Being God’s children living at a time after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are no longer living under the requirements of the law that was given through Moses. If we keep on living to try to please God by obeying the laws written in the Bible, sin will master us. This is because we are focusing our mind and our heart on not sinning, and trying to obey God’s Word by trying not to make mistakes. This is trying to obey based on our own strength.
For example you lust, then you learned in the Bible that lust is a sin, so you repented and told God that starting today, I will not look at a woman lustfully anymore. I will spend 1 hour reading the Bible early morning. I will pray 1 hour. I will not look at women anymore. When I lust, I promise to tell my friend so he can help me. Etc. Etc. This is living under the requirements of the law! You are trying to make yourself holy! It is all about things that you need to do to be holy. It has already been proven by the Israelites for thousands of years in the Old Testament that this never works.
That is why God sent Jesus to die for us on the cross, resurrected on the third day, and gave us the Holy Spirit. God loved us so much He just gave us the solution that cost us nothing, but cost Him the greatest price. Now, we do not need to live under the requirements of the law anymore. We can now live under the grace God gave us through the cross, and the Holy Spirit living in us! Stop trying to please God with your own works. God is already pleased with you because of Jesus’ work and Holy Spirit in you. Just depend on the gift He already gave you.
Instead of trying to force yourself not to sin, just acknowledge before God that you cannot do this on your own. You have to surrender in trying to fix yourself. It never works. Start receiving and using God’s power of holiness through the Holy Spirit that is already a part of YOU. A part of YOU is already ALWAYS holy. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you DAILY how to NEVER sin anymore. Then keep your eyes on the perfectness of Jesus.
You have the same power that Jesus had when he lived on earth. The Holy Spirit is in you, thus grace and truth is in you. You just need to use it to never sin anymore. Just like Jesus did. Just keep your focus and heart on how Jesus lived his life, and copy it. Let Jesus be your ONLY shepherd (Psalm 23:1). Do not listen to the world. Just think of the holiness of Jesus life, and that YOU HAVE IT TOO. As Jesus is, SO ARE YOU in this world (1 John 4:17). Just keep meditating on how Jesus lived his sinless life. Your spirit is now exactly the same as Jesus is. Same power, same abilities, same holiness. Your mind and soul just needs to follow. That is why it is exciting to read the Bible and learn more about Jesus so we would know who we truly are, and not just get it from what the world says about us. Most of the time, what the world says about who we are is A LIE.
Grace and truth came to us through Jesus Christ; his life, his cross, his resurrection, and his gift of the Holy Spirit. Let us live under the life of Jesus, and stop living under the requirements of the law. Stop focusing on all your wrongdoing. Stop trying to fix yourself. Stop trying to work things out to be a better person. Start depending on God instead. Be shepherded by Him. Start focusing on all the right things Jesus did for you. Focus on the holiness of the Holy Spirit that is PART OF YOU. And enjoy every circumstance of your life doing JUST THAT.
Prayer Starter: Dear God, thank you for giving me Jesus Christ and your Holy Spirit. Now I do not need to force myself to obey your laws. I just need to receive your gift of the Holy Spirit through the cross of Jesus. Holy Spirit will always help me, guide me, and give me the power to live a free and victorious life. I just need to keep listening to you Jesus, to you Holy Spirit. Teach me daily to listen to you. Teach me daily to meditate on your perfect life Jesus. I will always try to listen to you in all circumstances. Thank you for loving me so much that you gave me all of these. I love you too. Amen.
