Genesis 39:2 KJVAnd the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

In this verse, God said that Joseph was a prosperous man. If we read what happened before this verse, you would see that Joseph has just been sold as a SLAVE to Potiphar, without any belongings to his name. He does not even have any clothes with him since his brothers took away his many-colored tunic to prove to Jacob their father that he was killed by a wild animal.

So he was hated by his siblings, had no parental help, a slave, and does not even have any clothes on. Why did God say that he was a prosperous man then? What made him prosperous?

The verse says ‘the Lord was with Joseph’. Jesus’ other name is also ‘Immanuel’, meaning ‘God With Us!’ That means Jesus our Lord is always with us, thus Jesus made us a prosperous man already!

But why are we not prosperous then? The next verse (Gen 39:3) explains how God did it through Joseph. The verse said God prospered every work of his hands!

So we just need to be with Jesus as we do any kind of work everyday! In EVERYTHING you do EVERYDAY, focus on Jesus’ love for you, always see Him happily helping you as you work, let Him prosper every work of your hands! That’s all. It is that simple. Check out the following verses also.

Genesis 39:3 KJVAnd his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

Romans 14:17 NIVFor the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,

Joshua 1:8 NIVKeep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Deuteronomy 31:6 NIVBe strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Matthew 1:23 NIV – “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us“).

So what makes a man prosperous? Having a big business? Having wealthy parents? Being a doctor or a lawyer or a politician? Having lots of money?  Not really!  The main person you need to always have is Jesus! Just focus on Jesus’ love for you and your work!
